Many raluable eggs are spoiled or broken in sliipping. Most all cxpcriecced broeders are a ware of this iact, and gaard against t by us'ng the utmost care in pack ing fancy eggs for shipment. There are different modes of packing, and nearly all breedera have the r own ideas about the safely and convcnience of their own plan. Foï a nnmber of years the writer has adoptetl the iollowing plan, and of the hundrcds of eg:s I have sent out to customers, I have vet to hear of an effrt belng broken or otherwise njured n transit I ship in baskets which eost SI. 00 per dozen wholesale. These baskets are of different slzes, some for one setting, some for two, and of ton for lliree or four setting9 of eggs. Tbey vary in dimensions from 6 by 12 j to 12 by 20 inches. In packing the eggs for flhipment I flrat fohl two or ! throe thicknesses of cominon paper so as to form a lining to the basket. This done, I lili in wit h a layer of wheat bran, an inch and n half deep. Each egg is then wrapped separately in a piece of paper and j ed into the layer of bran, small end ; down, and with a half inch space tween each egg. In the smaller baskets six or seven eggs will lit in very snugly, In one layer. Then another layer of bran is int in so as ! to cover the first layer of eggs, taking i care to pack it in between. The basket ! is then ready for the second layer of ! eggs, whloh are placed in the same ; sition as the flrst Afterths, the space left at the top of tho basket is iilled with bran, a few sheets of paper laid over it and the basket is ready to be covercd. For a cover I use a pieco of coinmon doniestic, the size of the top of tho basket. The edges of this are drawn tight and sewed to the rim of the basket, and the package is rcady for the label and sliipping tag. Paste the label on to the doniestic, tie the tag i to the handle of the basket, and the ] package is ready for the expressman. The idea for using baskets and bran is. that botli are light and spring)' , and the eggs are in littlu danger of being broken, even by tho rough bandllDg o' the majority of express messengers. And then the handle of the basket is : ways convenient for the expresa messenger to take hold of, and hu does not roll and Uimblo it around as he would a box. This is an economical and safo: way to ship eggs for hatohing, and if universally adopted, there would be less coniplaint of eggs arriving at their des-! tination in a broken and otherwise
