Some people begau to think that Anu Arbor was not going to havo free delivery, but it should be remembered that. Uncle Sam moves slow in such mattera, never commencing an undertaking until getting a good ready. The following correspondence in regard to the matter will interest our citizens because the time fixed for the free delivery system is July 1. POSTOFFICE DEPARTMENT, ) Office of the Postmaster Ueneral, V Wasiiinbton, D. C. June 4, 1887. ) Establish the free delivery system in Ann Arbór with four carriers at $000 each, per annura. This order to take effect July 1, 1887. 18igued, Wh. S. Vilas, Postmastur General. Washington, June 4, 1887. Sir - Enclosed find copy of an order of the postinaster general establishing the tree dolivery system iu your city. You will select f aur intelligent, healthy, and active men for the service, of good reputation for industry, honesty and sobriety, and well fitted in every respect, and nomínate them to this office for appointment in ampie time for them to procure uniforms, and begin on the lst day of July next. In establishing the service you will be careful not to undertake more frequent deliveries, or extend the service over moro territory than the carriers can elïectually serve. A. E. Stevenson. Postinaster Duffy is now in cominunication with the authorities asking for Ive carriers, which number the inspector ïrst allowed on looking the ground over with a view to free delivery. QDALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT. The attention of postinaster Daffy was called to the regulations on this point which is as follows: Peraons nominated 'or appointment as letter-carriers must ie over 21 years of age and under 35. They must be intelligent, températe, and ahysically fitted for the service, and must je able to read and writo and understand the fundamantal rules of anthmetic.
