The New York Journal of Commeroe, of the l'2th instant, announces the death of this gentleman " at sea, of consumption, during the voy age f rom Havanna to New York." We were not before aware that Mr. Corselius had lef t the state, but knowing that fqr some time past he had been in declining health, we presume he must have visited the West Indies for ite benefit. The melancholy tidings will be received by bis mimerous friends in Michigan with sincere sorrow and regret. The deceased was for some time editor of this paper, in which capacity he acquitted him8elf with great ability, and to the entire satisfaction of its patrons. He afterwards occupied a similar relation in the "State Journal," a whig paper, published at Ann Arbor, and was ever an active and t rue hearted advocate of the great conservativo principies of the whig creed. He is also the author of severa! able and well written articles, puplished in the magazines of the day, on moral and intellectual science. As a thinker, he was oalm and original, patiƫnt, acute and thorongh in his investigatioris, and of ii decidedly philosophical turn. As a writer he was dignified, vigqrous and correct, indulging at times his love of the abstract, but ever aiming to inspire his readers with that spirit of benevolence and philanthropy with which he was ammated. A child of genius he was unqualified to struggle with the rigors of the world and in his calm contemplation ofjideal perfection, individual and social, he seemed forgetful of want and of the need of "laying up for himself, treasures on earth." He has died an honest man, and poor, leaving a family.
