Slie complains bitterly of the marmer of the executions. Shesaid: "My husband and the rest were genteneed to death late on the evening of the 21st and shot at 4 o'clock next morning. The nine victims were placed beforo the shallow, short graves, which were not more than four feet ia length and a foot and a half deep. My husband refused to have his eyes bandaged, and tore open thetunicof his uniform that it might not be riddled, saying that his coat wasguilty ofno treason. The firing party numbered ninety, and yet my husband was left unscratched afterthe first volley. At the second and thii'd discharge he was wounded and feil. Then the officer in charge advancedto givehim the coup deerace and emptied five chambers of his revolver before the 'murder' of my husband was completed. Then thecrowd rushed in and tore the boots and clothes from the still warm bodies, vrhich were pitched into two small graves and trodden down. My husband's feet were haekedoiï sothat his poor mutilated corpse niiht be made to fit the grave. It was all very horrible. "The dogs camo in the night, and we had to set guardians over the graves. Subsequentl}' we erectcd crosses and headstones, but they were demolished by the brutal and vindictive agentsof theRegents. Nov thires are quieter we have replaced 'Á -hïaJstones."
