The case decided is one in which the applicant soughtto patent both the machine and the procoss for separatinggarlic frora wheat. The commissioner holds that, in order to be patented, the process must not be merely the result of the cperation of the machino, but must havo an existence independent of the machine. This has been a long disputed question.
