Thebe was a vote tako in tbis countj Monday, For some days it wat) conoedec by the more conservativo temperanoe men that it would go " wet," but they were evidently not preparad for so large a majorïty against looal optiou. A most thorough canvass had been made by the fnends of the oause, meetings were hflld in every school district throughout the oonnty, temperance literature was scattered broadcast, and evorything tras done which could in any way tend to induce the masses to array themselvos against the saloon interests. Of conrse the other aids was not idle, and for a week or more considerable hard work was done, and the resnlt was seen when the ballots were co lint ed ■ Now the question has been effectually settled for three years at least. In the meantime those who farored looal option can see bow it workg in those oounties that have gone dry. Perhaps at the end of that time they will be satisfied to let well enough alone. It is evident from the largo majority, 1,633, that waa rolled up, that the people cf Washtenaw county are not yet prepared to do away with high hcenae. l'iie opponents of the measure, it is safe to say, did not oxpoct siiuh a majority, it was a stuuner to both faotionv, but there has beea no outward demonstraron on the part of the winning side, and they will show their good sense by refraining trom any.
