Society young men of Philadelphia are said to be agitateil over their hirt bosoms. There 13 a difforence of opinión as to whetlier their bosoni hall b polishecl or dead white. Two partiei have been fornied, the "Shinera" and the "Anti-Shiners," and the New of the Quaker City asserts tbat the young lmlies have entered the lists according to their different opinions. It says one of the queens will soon issue invitationt for a party upon which will appear the commauding worils: "Polished linen d rigeur," and intímate that this move will be followed up by a "Dead Whiter," who will assen upon her invitations that "Dead white bosotns only are tolerable in veiined society." The world prosrresses over the reraains of defealed humanity, but whether it w 11 move over a "Shiner" or a "Dead Whiler" can at this stage of the strnggle be only surmised. Those who observe the combat f rom the standpoint of rational huiu&uitr will be ii]it to decide against the shirtbosom however it may be ornamonted, pollshed or whitened. The low-cut vest exposes to the varying atmosphere during the winter or "social season" the most vital part of the human anatomy. It inakes a bid for colds on the hiDgs or pneumonía, and ia therefore an open menace to the health. Both the "Shiners' and the "AntiShineis" should sufFer defeat bv a rtional move for high-cut vests in dress as in business suits. The chest should ahvays be protected as fully as the back or any other part of the human íorm; and while the reform is in progress the present satin vest-back should be displaced by some cloth equally as thick and warm as that which constitutes the fragmcntary front of that particular garment.
