It is not too early to begin to tbink what can be done on July 4th. There is no reason why we should not hare a rousing celebration. It is a good many years since we have had one, and now I ssy let the people of the county and state know that Ann Arbor is alive, and has enough enterprise to do something in the matter. f' I have been told that many who attendd the Booth-Barrett entertainment Monday evening were more or .leas disappointed, why, or how it was they oould not say, but that there was an impalpablu something which could not be explaiued. I can account for it only in this way: Each actor is great in himself, and when two such artists like Booth and Barrett play upon the same stage, at the same time, the audience is disappointed by being unable to comprehend and appreoiate the acting of theae gentlemen. I have been thinking whether our peace offlcers get tha samo amount of credit when they do an act that is bsneflcial to the community, as they get cusseswhen they make a small error. Now, it appears to me that the prosecuting attorney, th justices and the officers have, durmg the last two weeks, dona an act of gret benefit to tbis city in breaking up, if even for a short time only, the gang of toughs and rowdies who have so disgraced our streets for some time past. Fiv of this gang have been sent up for terms ranging from thirty days to six months; one was ordered out of the city, and two took their departure between the days to ecape arrest. Let us hope that this will break up the gang, and if it does not that the offlcers will repeat the dose.
