Prof and Mrs. McLachlan, will upon their return to this city, ocoupy the residence recently purchased by them, on División street. Prof. C. X. Jones, has accepted the position of general special agent of the Northwestern Mutual Lito InB. Co., of Milwaukee, Wis. Severance. The past college year the university has lost three professors by death, Proffl. Palmer, Dunster and Cheever, and Profs. Payne, Hennequin, Dewey, Jones, Hendrioks and Sohaberle have resigned, the Chronicle says, owing to the small sal aries received. Professor Vietor C, Vaughan Jeft Ann Arbor on Monday night for Europe, where he purposes to visit the formost laboratones of Germany FranceandEngland, in connection with bis special line of original investigation ; he will be acconipained by his assistent, M. The Palladium board of '89, offer the following prizea : Best college song, $25 ; second, $15. For the best design for cover, $15. First and secoud prizes will also be given for poems. It has not yet been decided what the prizes for poems will be. The board reserves the right to rejeot any or au' contributions. It is probable other prizes besides these will be given, but these ought to bring oot a large number of competitors. Profs. Frieze, Demmon and Walter will oompose the committee to award the prizes. Competition is open to all.
