It w well to foster tbe common dread for deadly poisons. Fauiiliarity with thera should neyer be permitted to " breed contempt." The effect of somc of tbe polsons used in killing insects is deadly and sure. Substances containiug arsenic are most to be dreaded, bccause they are most numereus. Kvery one should know what to do in case gomo human being is unfortunate to swallow a poisocous éose. Such a case may not occur once in a dozen years, yet it is worth while to be prepared for that one case. The symptoms of arsenical poiscning art sickness of the stomacb, vomiting of bloody matter and difticult breathing, a cold feeling in the ieet, and Uw, hard, qulck pulse, with the most iosatiable tbirst. Tlierewill be stains about the mouth. Vomiting should be encouraged in the usual way by Kiring salt or mustard and lukewarm water, lime-water, soaptand water or ipecac. Prevent the poison from attacking the lining membrana of the stomach. For thls purpose magnesia and chalk with water, sugar and linseed, or sweet oil should b swallowed. The best antidote is the hydrated sesquioxide of iron. (In somc of the prepared arsenioal insecticides thia Is added to the preparation to neutraliza the polsonous effect of the arsenic.) It may be purchased at any drug store, but should be obtained as fresh as possible, as it soon loses its efficacy. II the dose of toisón is a small ene. the violent symptoms wlll toon subslde, and all that will be required is the usual care as to diet, etc., remembering that the inflammation of the stomach is very severe, and that there is very great danger of chronio infiammation or permanent paralysis. It can not be too of ten reitcrated that the different forma of arsenio aro the most horrible and deadly of poisons, and with them an ounce of prevention is worth many pounds of cure, lf you use that which may causa ieath, it is no more than right that you ihould also use that which may hold death At bav.
