Work upon the campus has begun and there are live gangs of workinen making the usual snmmer repairs, whioli keeps Secretary Wade busy thin hi t wheather. A new tin roof is being put on the museum and new fioors are beins laid in the corridors above the firnt Hoor in the main buililing. About $1,000 is beiug expended ia renovating and disinfecting both hospitals and about $2oO in rvpairs on the observatory buildings. Rooms 24 and Q are being cornpletely overhauled and the ceilins in Prof. Spaulding's room will be raised four feet. About $200 will be expended in repairs on the president' house and many other minor repairs will ba made. The ehemical vault is to be built east of the chemical laboratory and will be nearly all under ground. The building will be 6re-proof. The medical committeo of the board of regenta have reported the following to secretary Wade: 1. That the matter of lilling the chair of obstétrica and diseases of women and ohildren. made vacaut by the death of Dr. Dunster. be deferred until the next meeting of the board. 2. That Dr. James N. Martin bo designated to proform the duties of professor of obstétrica and diseases of woDiou andchildreu until the next meeting of the board, hi.s compensation for sueh service to be fixed by the board hereafter, having refercnce to the services whicli lie shall have performed. :!. That Prof. Ford be authorizcd to employ nn assistant for one year at a salary of $5U0 per annum. The scheme for the uuiversity authorities to assume control of the hospitals, which w is discussed before the meeting of the Board of Kegents in June, and which was referred to a joint committee oonswting of the auditiug board, cornprising President Angelí, Seoretary Vade and Treasurer Soule and the hospital committee of the medical faculty, has finally been settled. The authorities will try it for one year with power to continue or return to the old system as they see fit. A steward, at a fixed salary, will have entire charge of both hospitals, buyhi? the provisión, recciving the moneys of both institutions, and will report to the auditiug board of the university. The committee decided to recommend Mr. Josepli Clark, of Monroe, who will uudoubtedly be conflrmed at the next meeting of the board. The salnry will be about S1.2U0 n year. Mr. Clark, has recently removed to tliifl city from Monroe, and will be ready to take charge as soon as the hospitals are open f I.
