Every school house in Washtenaw county was closed and the ha'p]y children carne to the fair granada in crowds. There were :0 farmers' wagons each containing the seholarb of a district school, which were driven to the grounds, gaily trimmed with flags and foliage. A song by 200 school chüdren, led by Miss Lucy K. Cole, was a feature of the program, and tlie Detroit Newsbo.yh' Hand a!s furnishcd musie. County School Commissioner V. V. Wedeuieyer presided and addressed the children. SupL Whitney, of Ypsilanti, State Supt. II. II. Pattengill, and Mr. M. J. Cavanaugh, of this city, also made suitable remarks. Woman's Day, yesterday. was enjoyed by thousands of peoplc fro:n all parts of the county. Miss Ëmuia 10. Bower, president of the day, intro duced Mrs. Mary Mayo, of Battle Creek, who spoke at 10:30 a. m, on "The Needs of the Hour." Mrs. Mayo's address was vcry wcll received by the large audionce present. In the afternoou, at 1 o'clock, Mrs. Mary Stocking Knaggs, of JJay City, state president of the Equal Su ff rage Society, spoke on "The Coming Voter" Mrs. Knaggs is thoroughly conversant with the pro ble ras of America's politics and few who heard her could fail to be conviuced of the bencfits which e(uU suffrage would bring to this country. Mis. billian M. Hollister, of Detroit, alto delivered an extremely instruetive and interesting atidrcss on "Woman's Work." The Allmcndinger sisters of Aun Arbor and the Misses Pease Ladies' Quartette of Ypsilanti added greatly to the enjoyment oí the program by their excellent music. Today is "Aun Arbor Day" and the business houses of the city will close this afternoon so that their employees can attend tlie fair. The program will include bicycle races as a special feature and the Kemp Sisters' combination will also prove an attraction. The exhibits are so uumerous that ;ents have to be erected for tlie overlow. The fruits and vegetables, live stock and business meu's exhibits are all unusually fine.
