"We can't go to Europe this year," said the progressive business man, decidedly. "But, John - " "U's no use to argüe," he interrupted. "You wanted to go and I did my best, but my scoundrelly creditors won't let me. They're the most unaccommodatlng lot I ever had deallngs with." "They - they won't have you arrested, will they?" she asked, anxlously. "Arrested!" he exclaimed. "Well, I shoulfl say not. But they're mean and petty. Why, Maria, when I failed I flgured that I could pay them 20 cents on the dollar, and then we'd take a trip around the world, but they're so small they wouldn't accept it. Then I offered 'em 30 cents and arranged for a trip to Europe, but they wouldn't take that." "Then what can we do, John?" "Well, I've made up my mind to offer them 50 cents to-morrow, and if they take that we'll try Narragansett Pier or Bar Harbor for a month." "Do you think they will accept it?" "I don't know. When men get so mean and small that they'll hold a poor unfortunate man for more than 20 cents on the dollar when he has all nis plans made for a tour of the world, you can't teil what they'll do. These fellows are so grinding mean that I don't believe they'd care if they made me pay 100 cents on the dollar and beat me out of my vacation entirely. There are some awfully annoying and perverse men in this world." People sniff the air to lócate an odor, jecause by distending the nostrils a arger quantlty of air is drawn in, the lervfis are better exposed, and the odor nore elearly perceived.
