of agricullure, m wresting the presidency of the state agricultural college from Mr. Gorton, is being generally condemned throughout the state. It lias been claimed that the state boa re is not accountable to tlie people for this action and some have upheKl the board without knowing the cause o Mr. üorton's losiug his position. Were there good gromuis of complaint against Mr. (ïorton, the board woult lose none of its dignity in stattug thera to the people, and ivould justify its action, whieh nmv seems so unvvarrantod. If, on the other h iml, no goot reaon can be given, other then pet'.y jeslousy ;uid enraity, it is naturally the wiso thing to keep silence. The people of Michigan, however, will naturally be liable to suspect the board's motives until sorae satisfactory explanation is made. The reports which are received from Turkey all have shown that that empire lia done, and internis to do, no more to prevent the Armenia n outrages tlian shu is forced todo. It has been one of the greatest records of crimiual negligence in the history of this cpntury, that the great powers of the world ahould have waited so long before taking decided action to compel the Turka and Kurds to answer for their inurder of helpless Armenians. The fleets which are sent to Turkey w'ill have little influence on the fiends who have so horribly burncd and robbed and massacred if they siinply stcam into the harbor and lie there for several days simp'.y as an exhibition to acare the Mussulmans. The only way to stop the bloodshed once for all is t de mand the lives of prominent Turk Uh officials for every life taken by their subjects which the governmen had power to defend. Minister Terrel has the right idea, in threateningr t demand and obtain the governor o Iladjim's head, if any American wome missionarie there are injured. If w hear more such determined rcsolution the prospect of bringing the Turks t time will be materially brighter.
