Thore are without doubt many theatre patrons in this city who remember with a lively interest the work of Minnie Maddero F;ske as aa actress before she rctired ternporarily from the stage somo five years ago. She was then regarded as a genius, although she had never been seen in a play worthy of her unique personality. Her appeaiance this season, with her art developed and lier dramatic ability so pronounced as to lead to her designation as the most moving actress in America, is a matter for congratularon. Mrs. Fiske has anew play, b.y Alphonse Daudet and Leon Henncquen, adapted by Harrison Grey Fiske, whieh offers her the greatest dramatic opportunity, Mrs. Fiske went upon the stage at the age of three. Before her four.eenth year she had acted the. round of juvcnile parts with the prominent playersof the periocl. Long before she wore long dresses off the stage she played Krancoia in "Richelieu and fouiso in "The Two Orphans. " Wlion thirteen, she assuuied the part of the VVidow Mclnotte with astonishing success. Mrs. Fisko's occasional appearances for charity in New York since her retirement, i i plays that had tested great genius ia others, illnstrated her marvelous artistic expansión, and her return to tha stage in playa that fit hor nnique talents perfectly is an event that all who ad mired her before will be quick to appreciate Mrs. Fiske wiil appear at the Opera House, Monday eveuing Feb. lOth.
