Liondon, Oct. 26. -The Kt. Rov. Frederick Temple, bishop of London, has been appointed archbishop of Canterbury and primate of all England in succession to to the late Most Rev. Edward White Benson. The new primate is the son of an officcr in the army, bom Nov. 30, 1821; was educated at the graminar school at Tiverton, and pror-eedlng to Oxford became acholar of Baliol college, taking his degreo of B. A in 1842. He was ek-cted fellow and mathematical tutor of his college, and haring been ordained in 1846 was appolnted principal of the training college at Kneller hall, nar Twickeuham, in 1818. Dr. Temple reí eived episcopal consecration at Westminster, Dec. 81, 1869, together with the bishops-elect of Bath and Wells, and tif the Falkland islands. Dr. Templé published "Sermona P:eachedat Rugby Chapel in 1858-60," in 1861. In April, 1888, he was elected Bampton lecturer at Ox' ford for the ensuing year. On the death of Dr. Jackson in Jauuary, 1885, Dr. Temple was appointed bishop of Lundon and was succeeded at Exeter by Dr. Bicke steth.
