From Normal Hill
The state board of educition met here last Sattirday: Mr. lt. 11. Putnam met his classes Tuèsday, after -an absence oí several days on account of illness. Dr. Boonè left Tuesday for Owosso and Lansing. where he spoke to the city teachers, returning Thursday evening. The contract for grading the Normal grounds and making the walka and drives has be?n let to John'F. Weston. Work will be commenced at once. The illustrated lecture by Lieut. Peary Friday evening was one of the best ever given in Normal hall. From beginning to end it was intensely interesting, while the pictures, which were kaken by Lieut. Peary himself, were singularly beautiful. Sixty two members of the Crescent society indulged in a banquet at the Y. W. C. A. home last Saturday evening. The tobles were deeorated with chrysanthemums and palms, making apleasing appearance. Toasts were givn, and the evening was pleasantly spent. The Normal choir, under the direc tion of Prof. F. H. Pease, lias gained a reputatiön ïor effective chorus singing which is eclipsad by no other similar organization in the state. Prof. Pease is a music'.an of the highest oder. whose labors in the cause of music have been directed by an unseliish love fortheart, and with no regard to personal f ame or advantage. 11 is command of a choras is indeed wonderful. Beginning evory year with c mparafcively aew material, he is able in the course of . a few weeks to impart to it enough of his own inspiration to make it a flt interpreter of most beautiful nni-ic. The choir this year is coffiposed of about 175 members, and already has done some very créditable singing, the chorus of young men last Tuesday morning being particularly line.
