The board of directors of the Jiichi gan state association of farmers' clubs has called the annual meeting at Lansing l'or December 7 and 8, 1896. ïhe following deelaration of principies will probably come before them for adoption: - First- That all eountv officials bepaid in full f or their respective services by stated salnries fixed by the respectiv boards of supervisors, and thac it be made a criminal offen-e for such officials to receive any fees or otlier perqU'Sites in addilion to their salaries Kurther, that the fees eo'leoted in counly offices be re-aljusted on an equitable basis, and that hereafter all such lees be turned into the count-. treasurer and become a part of the general futid. Second- That no state inslitutions be establishe I by Mie next legisla1 ure, and and that there bc m general weeding o ui of the unprofitable state institutions already in existence, and of unbusiness like mettaods of management wheiever they exist. Third- That Michigan prisons should in the aggrcgate, be made self-supporting Kourth - That provisión be made vh"reby the estates or the inane or those parties legally resiionsible for their support, shall contribute either in full or in part as the cireumstance shall warrant, toward the maintenance of said insane when confined in the public asylums. Fifth- That not more tlian the reiular one-sixth irrll tax be granted to the University for the coming two years Sixth - That no changts be made in our road laws whereby the maintenanc ■ of our roads shall le made more burdensome than at present. Seventh- That a more económica! and effective system for the collection of taxes ii pon non-resident land must be olevised. Eightti- That our tax system be s'o araended as to secure a more equitable distribution of thé burdens of taxation upon both personal property and real estáte, and upon both corporate and private capital.
