She was visitiug in the city, and she j was the prettiest girl in tho room. When she stood up to sing, the other j girla regarded her enviously. A pretty girl who can ging is doubly dangerous, and they considerad that the visitor had alrcady received more than her proper I share of rnascnline attention. While she was arrangiug her music and whispering to the accompanist the two girls jast behind the piano were exchanging confldeuces. "I do think it's a shanie," said the j first girl vexedly. "She's captured all the men already with her airs and graccs, and if she sings well - and I just kuow she does - we won't have a bit of fun tonight. " "Oh, yes, we will, " answered the. gecoud girl, smiling happily. "VVe'll be all right. " But the other was not to be so easily cousoled. "I wonder who asked her to Bing?" she fretted. "It raust have been some one who knows all about her little tricks, too, for all the girls in the clnb are talking about it. " "I asked her," said the second girl calmly. "ïou'll know why in a minute. Just wait a bit. " Two minutes later the first girl leaned over the other and toaohed her arm. "Why, she niakes awful faces," she whispered delightedly. ' 'She's positively ugly when she opeus her mouth that way. ' ' "I know it, " responded the second girl, with a Eatisfied smile. "That's why I asked her to sing." "You clever darling!" exclaimed the first girl, and ouly the fact that there were others present kept them from hugging each other as they urged the or to siug again.-
