Earl Chase spent Sunday with IIolloway friends. X. Schmid was a guest of Ann Arbor relatives Saturday. .Mrs. Enóch Silkworth has been quite sick the past week. Chas. Gumper's two weeks-old daughter was buried Monday. Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Uenshaw have a bran new bey. Born last Sunday. Mrs. ffm. Koebbe and Miss Tillie Nauman visited in Jackson, Friday. Miss Mary Holt of Tecumseh, visited friends in this vicinity a few days recently. The dam at the Manchester Roller Mills is utidergoing much needed repairs. Will Hashley has joined the Lake Shore crew that is working at the new gravel pit Clara Keliker has recovered sufficiently from her recent illness to be about the house. A blind musician accompanied by a boy was in town Monday picking up the pennies. Webster Logan is nursing a sore hand. the result of his getting a large splinter in it. Miss Iïelle Gordinear has been enter - taining as her guest, Miss Rose Hineley of Toledo. Wil) Kalmbach returned, Monday frorn a week?s visit with his brother Fred, at Jackson. Mrs. Ann Calkins of Chelsea, isvisiting her mother. Mrs. Jane Kingsley, at J. II. Kingsley's. The cheese factory is now in running order, and the business in that industry began Wednesday. John Gouser returned Alonday from a two weeks' vacation, spent with friends in Jackson. Local merchante are display ing their Christmas goods, and some creditable displays are noticed. Mr. and Mrs. Chris Rauer have reason to rejoice over the birth of a nice little girl, that arrived last Sunday. Kimble & Schmid will probably enter into the manufacture of ligh furniture. ' They are now making tables. The directors of the Union Savings bank have declarad a 5% dividened to the shareholders, payable Jan. 1 , '97. A. F. Freeman went to Lansing Tuesday to be absent a few days on i legal business in the Supreme court. About 25 members of the Star lodge went to Brooklyn last Friday even ing to do the work.and report an enjoyable time. John P. Kirk of Ypsilanti, our newly elected prosecuting attorney, was in town on business Thursday of last week Ed. Kief received some large deer heads from Virginia recently which he is mounting. Elmer Cushman sent them. We are informed that E. E. Silkworth, who has been operating a laundry at Hillsdale, has moved his plant to Readiag. Mrs. Bert Chase and son "little Bill " of Jackson, are visiting at Grandpa Chase's, and will rem lin until after the holidays. Jacob Riedel and Will Seckenger had a lively runaway one day last week, and Will was considerably jarred up by bemg thrown out. The stock holders of the Peoples' Bank, at their animal meeting Tuesday, elected its present offieers and board of directora. Dr. J. A. Lynch was on the road most of the time last week introduéing his medicines and baking powder to the trade in new territory. Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Sanford left Monday for the East. They will visit New York and Philadelphia relatives until after the holidays. A large quantity of new Chemicals and apparatus has been received at the high school, and now the chemical laboratory is as well equipped asany in this part of the state. Our item last week regarding the new time card, announced the departure of the north bound train to Jackson at 9:42 a. m. It should be 9:32 a. m., ten minutes earlier. The stockholders of the Union Savings bank met at the cashiers office Tuesday, to elect offlcers for theensutng year. The present officers and directors were all re-elected. The ladies of the M. E. church will hold a fair, Friday and Saturday this week, at the Bessac store. Various exhibits have been arranged and the ladies are hopeful of a good patronage. While nnloading hogs at the stock yards Thursday, Ben Mahrle's team became frightened and ran away, but the team was stopped near the frog pond without any material damage being done. Farmers in this vicinity who have tried the new corn threshers this f all, do not seem to be very enthusiastic in praise for the machines, as they claim it costs as much to tresh it as it does to do the labor by hand. Dwight II. Robinson, of the AntïSaloon League, who was to have delivered a lecture on temperance at the Baptist church, Sunday evening, failed to appear, consequently the large audience present was disappointed. Friends of W. C. Kirchgesner, a Machester boy employed in Peek Bros. pharmacy, Grand liapids, are circulating petitions throughout the state in the anticipation of getting Wil] on the state board of pharmacyT We vvish him success. The Royal Aren degree was confered Wednesday evening by Meridian chapter upon a team composed of Messrs. Bert Rose, Evan Essery and Mortimer Henderschott. Visiting brothers from neighboring towns were present, and after the exercises a banquet was served. The annual election of officers of the A. ü. U. W. was held Tuesday evening and the following is the list of officers selected:- Master Werkman, Iloward B. Clark; forman, Ed. Braun; overseer, Wm. Kirchgessner; reeorder, J. E Blum; financier, Chas. Younghans: receiver, Wm. Koebbe; guide, Geo. L. Feldkamp; inside watch, Wm.Reichert; outside watch, Theo. Morscheausser; medical examiner. Dr. ,T. F.
