Vacation commences tliis evening. Next Monday will be the shortest day of the year. Fraternity Lodge will work the third degree tonight. Visiting brothers welcome. Waslitenaw County's Lansing contingent consulted with the board of regenta Wednesday. Wahr & Miller have a very attractive uïndow display, in the shape of two revolving Eilïel towers. The directors of the State Savings bank have declared a 3 per cent setniannual dividened, payable Jan. lst. The B. P. O. Elks gave a reception AVednesday night to the Guy Bros., Minstrel troupe, most of whom are members of the order. The University School of Dansing, will give a program party every Saturday evening during vacation, aiso Chriatmas and New Year's evenings. The local members of the order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, have reeeived invitations to a grand ball New Year's eve, at the Temple in Detroit. Quite a nmnber of the local Masons will go to Detroit tomorrow evening to attend a school of instruction, and see the third degree conferred by Palestine lodge. The directors of the Farmers & Mechanica bank, have re-elected their old officers, Reuben Kempf.pres.; Chas. Greene, vice-pres. ; F. II. Belser, cashier. Dr. Amalignan will arldress the State Teachers' association at Lansing, during the holidays. llis subject will be 'Sanitary Science in a college course of study." The Loyal Temperance Legión will meet Saturday, Dec. 19th, at 2 j). m. over Calkins' drug store. Asthis is the last meeting before the holidays a large attendance is desired. Owens Camp of Yp.silanti, M. W. A., came up about 35 strong to assist Ann Arbor Camp in nitiation ceremonies. Light refreshments were served. Ann Arbor Camp is now 97 strong. County Cierk Dausingburg went to Jackson Saturday as a member of the board of canvassers for this senatorial district. They declared Andrew Campbïll elected, with a majority of 41. Detroit Chapter, I). A. I!., has invited Ann Arbor Chapter, I). A. lt., to attend their anuual banquet to be held in Detroit, .Tan. 8. It is expected a number of the members in this city wül attend. A. J. Sawyer has secured rooms at Lansing for the coming session. If you want to find him go to 412 Grand street sonth. If you want to iind him during the session go any place into the capitol and listen. Geo. D. Tienkin oí Eochester, Mich., a dental student, died at the Xi Psi Phi house, Wednesday inorning. llis parents came on, and' after short funeral services Wednesday afternoon the body was taken home for burial. We were told the other day of nine men who are going to buy books cm the Centtal because of the slow and irregular time made by the electric line. A pleasant dinner was given to the foot-ball team, at the Campus Club, last Saturday night. After partaking of the good things Prettyman had pro vided to eat, a number of good speeches were listened to. The company parted at a late hour telling what they would do to Chicago next year. Theleap year party at the Gym last Saturday afternoon, was a very enjoyable aftair, and also a proíitable one flnancially. About 175 tickets were sold l'or the Hoor. while the gallery waa comfortably fllled with spectators. Regenta Barbour and Dean, and l'rofs. Hutchins, (reene and Wenley were chaperones. A Virginia reel, in which all the members of the faeulty present participated, took the eye of the gallery j and won great applause. A visitor to the city at this time of year, whose friends are showing him the city, will not see it all unless he is taken to Mills & Co's store to see the decorations. This firm has always prided itself on Christmas decorations, but this year has outdone even its own elïorts. The flrst Hoor throughout and the front end of the second story are bowers of beauty. The society expects to remove about January 1 into its tin' new hall over Lindenschmitt & Apfel"s. The Djjmocrat is in receipt of the report of the Board of Trustees of the Easteru Michigan asylum at Pontiac, lor the two years ending June 30, ".ui. There are many interesting features to the report. Of the 4507 patients who have been admitted since the establish ment of the asylum, 1498 were natives of Michigan, 341 have been committed from Washtenaw county. A careful perusal of the report gives one quite an idea of what is being done for these unfortunates, and the care exercised by those in charge. Etev. Edwin S. Shaw, who hits been serving as pastor of a Congregational church at Cooperstown, N. D., for a year and a half, writes to his people tliat they are surrounded with snow drifti. 15 to 20 feet high. Mr. Shaw was to have preached the sermón at the unton Thanksgiving service, but the storm was so bad that nobody could get to the church, and the services were held the following Suuday.- Ypsilanti Commercial. Mr. Shaw was well known in Aun Arbor, being very prominent in üniversity circles before his graduation.
