Prof. Emanuel Schmid. Professor of History in Capital University, ColumSiis, Ohio, (lied at his home in that city, Monday morning last, of paralysis. He ivas one of the most learned men in :he ranks of the Lutheran church of this country. He graduated from the university of Michigan with the degrte lf A. IJ., in 1855, and A. M. in 185a Afterleaving the L'niversity he went ibroad and studied in Theubingen and Erlangen. Il is life work has been in Columbus in connection with the Unii'ersity, and he was one of the leading men of the city. Mr. Schmid was born in Ann Arbor July 3, 135, in a house near the old liethlehem church, and was the flrst Grerman child born in this city. He went to school at the old academy on the Cornwell place, and afterwards, at the University. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity, back in the days when the war was on against fraternities, and the society had to keep their charter in hiding. lie leaves three brothers, and four sisters:- F red Schmid, Miss Sophia Schmid and Mrs. Christian Mack of this city; Xathaniel Schmid and Mrs. Lydia KirchhoiTer of Manchester; Mrs. Hev. Christian Fulz of Buffalo; and Theophilus Schmid of Chicago. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon in Columbus.
