Many Desert The Warship
San Francisco, Dec. 30.- The United States steamer Adams got in f rom Honolulú minus forty-eight of her crew and ! one quartermaster. The sailors were all enlisted in San Francisco prior to the sailing of the warship ten months ago and their destination liad barely been rea.ched before the men began deserting and heading back íor San Francisco. Nearly all oí the men were back here months ago and the vessel had to return short-handed. The Adams was in a gale last Saturday and the men had a hard time of it. The vessel leaked considerably and the pumps had to he manned. Nevertheless, the men consider the Adams a stanch vessal and every one of them left would ship in her again on a three years' cruiss.
