Lansing, Mlch., Jan. 9.- An open j int conference of the Democratie, Populist and Union silver state central committees was held here yesterday. It was quite largely attended by prominent lieaders in the parties represented from ill parts of the lower península, and it tvas evident that their entlusiasm for :free silver coinage had not abated on account of the results of the November lïlection. It was öecided that the state oonvention to nomínate a justice of the nupreme court to succeed Chief Justice ILong and two regents of the university be held at Grand Rapids not later than Feb. 20. The plan is that the 'nominación for justice shall go to the Demoi;rats and that of the others to the Populists and sllverites. Kesolutions were adopted demanding that a tax of !! per cent. on incomes of $1,500 and upwards be enacted by the present legisI ature; urging that all government isues of money be legal tender for all jbligations, opposing retirement of the greenbacks, and reafirming belief in tree coinage at 16 to 1. An unsucee.=sful eft'ort was made to indorse Governor Pingree'á message in the entirety although it was declared to be satisfactory as a whole.
