Ky writing to J. F. Casey & Co., St. Louis. Mix. you canget circulare and full particular about the churn '6 a Reader. A Memorable First ight. The first night, four years ügo, of the now famoüs play 'The Girl 1 Left Behind -Me." in Xew York, was one qf the most memorable in recent years. The play opened well, the mingling of stirring war incidents with social frivolity and fun of lite at a frontier post in the far west sullicing to keep the audience well interested. But it was only at the end of the second act where the human interest becornes in tense, and a brave man is allowed to fall under the one unpardonable sin in a soldier, cowardice, tliat people began to be excited; from that point until the close of the third act the excitement rose. The manner in whicli the ineidents of this long and splendid act are wound up- the suspense and terror, the futile parley with the enemy, the weird and awful war songs of the Indians in the distance, the solemn moment, when (Jen. Kennion is about to shoot his own daughter (at her request) in order to save her from the savages, the final appearance of the reseuing troops in the nick of time- all this was admirablv done and evoked literally thunders of applause. The curtain had to be raised again and again and it was fully fiv minutes before the hou-e became quiet Since that great first night '-The Girl I Left Behind Me" has been given hundreds of times, but the scène in the stockade still seems to come upon the audience like a revelation. A Damly Wintlmil], Make it Yourself.
