The lord mayor, in proposing the health of Mr. Bayard, sald; "You, sir, represent the greatest re public the Avorld has ever known, but you are our brother by ties of blood and one that has done much to cement the to nations. We are here to welcome the lineal descendant of that great nevaner jyayard of whom it was well as it should be said of you, tha1 he was sans peur et san reproche. You have inspired love and affection in English breasts, and you are back with you to the United States the heart of Great Britain." Vlscount Peel, proposing the sentiment, "The English-Speaking Nations," referrcd in the most terms to Mr. Bayard. Lord Salisbury said, other thing: "We are all here to expresa our deep regret that Mr. Bayard's term of office is about to expire, and to acknowledge the debt both countries owe his deep love of peace.
