E. C. Silkworth of Eeading Sundayed in town. Jacob Andreas has been on the sick list the past few days. John J.Orr of Ti cumseh was in town a short time Saturday. J. M. Jones, the Tecurnseh tailor was in town on business Friday. Wm F. Kehfuss, our county treasurer was a business visitor here Monday. F. B. Bailey busied hiimelf at Kinsler's last week helping invoice the stock. Miss Lizzie Farrell returned last week from a month's visit at lilisslield and roledo. Walter C. Mack and Karl McKinkle oí Aun Aruor, were riere on business Monday. Miss Bertha C. Lehn returned Monday f rom an extended visit with f rienda in Detroit. Miss Flora ITartbeck of Tecumseh, was a guest of Mr. and Mrs. F. 1L. Spafard Sunday. Mrs. II. G. Conklin and daughter Flora of Toledo have beea visiting Mrs. A. K. Gage. Steven J5righton, who had been at home sick, returned to Lenavvee Junetiou last Friday. A party of Linda Watkins' little friends gave her a pleasant surprise taturday evening. The Sodality society of St. Mary's j church, held a soc'al Thursday evening of last week at John Moran's. Fred M. Freeraan has been absent several days on legal business at Grand liapids, Grand Haven and Muskegon. Geo. Miller mourns the loss of his pet dog. "Puggte'' was caught under thewhtítlsof a freight car and cut to pieces. Manchester theatre goers who go to Jackson will miss the Hibbard Üpera House, that burned early Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Culver of Brookly ti, visited their daughter, Mrs. B. W. Amsden Friday and Saturday. and attended the Star banquet Friday evening. Mrs. Wm, Chase received a message last Friday saying that her brother. Chas. Conklin, Sr. .of Langston, (Mich.j was dead. He was a former resident of this place, and was at one time engaged in the livery business here. The C. É. society of the Germán Lutlieran church gave an entertainment at the Germán school building Monday night,which was well atteiulcd. The program ricluded musie, singing. recitations and a play by local talent. Prof. J. Jesse Sherwood had away last Friday afternoon and during their absence the house cauglit tire, probably f rom a spark f rom the kitchen stove, but Frank Sherwood happened to arrive home in time to discover and 'extinguish the fiames before any serious damage was done. The Star chapter gave a banquet and initiated two new candidatos at .Masonic Hall Friday evening of last week. The Brooklyn lodge hadbeen invite;!, but owing tu the disagreeable weather, only lü or'2o were present from there. There was a good attendance, huwever, and the evening was well enjoye l by those present. Wm. Arnold of Tecumseh, a brotherin law of Mrs.üT.Schmidand'Mrs.W. II. Lehr of this village, died Mond iy morning afier a lingering and painful Ulness. The funeral was held Wednesday morning and was attended by Mr. and Mrs. X. Schmid, Mr. and Mrs. W. l!. Lehr, Mrs. C. Lehn, Misses 13ertha and Klla Lehn and Mr. Walter Lehn of this village. Fr. Beidenrich also attended and otlicia'ed at the ceremonies. A certain young man of this village has been suffering with pneumonía, and when his younger brother was questioned as to his condition, the conversation was about as follows: - "Helio-, How'8 your brother?"- i'0h, he'sgettin better,"- "Wliafs the trouble with him ?"- "Ammonia on the lungs." - ''Wbat?" - ■■Ammonia," - "Oh yes, fonr X' or 'ordinary' T' But the boy did n ot belong to the ' Old school' and ■'didn't know, but guessed he had it pretty bad." Two caucases were held Satur,day evening -The ''Citizens" and "Young Men's,'' and two good tickets were nominated for the various village oflines.
