The annual meeting of the Women's Christian Temperaiice Union was held in the Young Women's Christian Association rooms last-Thursday afternoon. It was one of the most enthusiastic meetings of the whole year and was largely attended by members and friènds of the union. The president, Mrs. Voorheis, gave a masterly and inspiring address. The Xatioiwl Union fosters more than 40 different branches of work; of these the Ann Arbor unión his in actuül operation lt branches, under wise and eflici ent leaders. Reports of the year were read by the various oöicers of' the society and superintendents of the different depart menta of work. Special mention should be made of the excellent report made by the superintendent of A'arcotics, Mrs. Higley. During the past year she has done good work in the ward schools and is now introducing into the Sunday schools, pledge cards to be signed by the pupils, pledging themselves to abstain from the use of tobáceo and cigars. After the re-election of all the old ofücers, light ref reshments were served, and a social hour was spent, giving all an opponunity of becoining better acquainted with one another. Through the influence of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union, there is now pending before the leg'slature, a bilí providing that in all public institutions, such as asylums, etc, where there are women as inmates, there sha'l be at least one woman on the Advisory Board. During the afternoon sevral women gave their names as members of the White Ribbon Army. being thus willing to give their influence for the advancement of God and Home and Xative Land
