Another Pioneer Gone
Christian Rayer, an old and respected citizen of Washtenaw county, died at home in this city, Saturday night, of heart disease. The deccased was l'i years old. He luid been in ill health for a long time and hi3 death was not unexpected. Mr. Rayer was born in Germany and flrst came to Washtenaw county in 1852, when 28 years of age. He went to California during the gold excitement and upon returning settled upon a farm in Northñeld. He subsequently removed to this city and thence, after a residence here of one year to the farm in Pittsfield, now occupied by his son, Hermin Rayer. Heliveduponhis Pittsfleld farm 19 years, removing again to Ann Arbor in September, 1894, where he has since resided. Mr. Rayer was one of those painstaking and industrious farmers who have contribufed so muck to the development of Washtenaw county, and he will be mourned with sincere regreat by a large circle of friends. His wife and flve children, four sons and a daughter survive him. The funeral was held at the late residence of the deceased ïuesday afternoon.
