The annual banquet of the Ann Arbor high school alumni will be held at High School hall one week from tonight. The game between the University seríate and High School faculty occurs tomorrow at 4:15 p. m., at the athletic ground. All of the Fourth of July committees are hard at work and the eeiebration will surely be the largest ever witnessed in Washtenaw county. They were entertained at Relief park and so acceptably did. the entertainers use their friends that ■vhile one engine was sufticient to pull the nine coaches into Ann Arbor it took two engines to take them home. The Y. M. C. A. is very fortúnate in obtaining its speakers for the men's meeting next Sunday, June 20, at 2:45 p. m. The following men will be present and take part in the meeting: J. II. Ilollister, president of Grand Kapids Association; A. G. VanTuyle, chairman of state committee; A. L. l'arlsen, general secretary of the Detroit Y. M. C. A.; W. a'. Kling, state secretary of Ohio; Mr. Moody, presi dent of Detroit association and Mr. Sutherland, of Detroit. These men are all wi'll known speakers and wil] git e interesting talks. Hecker's military band will give an excursión to Whitmore Lake, Sunday. Fare for round trip, 35 cents. The band will give a concert at the lake in the evening. The Fnitarian lawn party, which was expected to be held next Saturdiiy af ternoon on the grounds of Prof. Russell,is postponed to a future time, hereaf ter to be announced. At the postoflice George F. Sanzi has been appointed stamping clerk in place of Glen Trowbridge.and Ernest P.Lutz has been appoyited subsitute carrier in place of Sanzi. The local lodges of Maccabeeslistened to a sermón by Rev. W. L. Tedrow on Sunday morning and in the afternoon performed their memorial rites in Forest Hill cemetery. President Angelí has been formally notified by Ihe state department that the sultan has withdrawn his objections to receiving him as the representative of this government. Arthur Brown, C. H. Cady and AV. C. Mack have purchased the Chi Psi fraternity property on the point between E. University and Washtenaw avenue, and will subdivide it into building lots. As lord high chamberlain of the ladies' división of the bicycle parade, Rs-lph Mc Allaster had a brief but brilliant career. He was the cynosure of all eyes, and every one exclaimed: " How perfectly proper !" Xext Sunday will be the memorial day of the Odd Fellow fraternity of this city. The Xorthside cemetery will be visited in the forenoon, and Forest Hill cemetery in the afternoon, and all graves of Odd Fellows will be decorated. Mayor Hiscock attended the meeting of the board of public works Wednesday night and gave them a sound lecture upon municipal expenses. The board of public works opened the bids for the Spring street grading Wednesday night. There is estimated to be about 700 yards of earth to move, and the board estimated the cost at ■S175 or 25 cents per yard. The bids were 12, 15 and 18 cents respectfully, vet the board ref used to let the lowest bidder, wnose bid was only one-half of their estímate, have the contract. It is said the board novv proposes to do the work fur 7 cents per yard. Something of a drop from 25 cents to 7. Probably 700 or 800 cyclists formed on the campus Tuesday night and wheeled about the city. Otficer Armbruster led the procession in full copper costume, and he was followed by professors, students, school children, young ladies and, old ladies. Many of the wheels were gaily decorated and several rusty old " ordinaries " were rolled out for the occasion, probably as companion pieces to the gray heads in the parade. The mounted brigade rolled about the city for an hour and after resolving that they had had lots of fun and would do it again some time, disbanded. AYill lïurrelson.the 17 year old son of Mrs. J. B. AVillis, of Elizabeth street suddenly disappeared one day last week and has not been heard from since. He rode away on his bicycle without making other preparations for a journey than to collect $1.(55 due him from James Harkins, which sum was all of the money in his possession The young man has evidently gone out to see a little of the world and when he has siitisfied his curiosity and experienced the fun of earning his owi living for a time he will probably b glad to return to the good home tha he left so unceremoniously.
