The counMl held its Qrst July meetng Wednesday night. The meeting was a long one, but with he exception of the paving ordinance vas uonfined to routine business. The mayor's vetoes of the allowance of Ï5.00 per month, to Mrs. Evasns of ,he appropriation of $105 for eompletng S. University avenue, and of the dcceptance of the bond of the New State telephone company for want of ufficient surety, were sustained by the council. The recommendation of the board of mblic works that street grades on Iuron between State and 13th, on 13th ïuron to Adii, on División Kingj-ley to Detroit, Ann 4th ave. to 5th ave., be established so that the water company oan lay its mains with reference thereto, was concurred in. Petition of the Harugari society, askng to connect their new hall with the nain sewer. was referred to the board of public works. Bills to the amount of 8,046.50 were allowed, apportioned among the followng funds as follows: 2ontin:on1 f] Tenerul Scwèr 81.10 Sewci No. 6 .iu.oo Street 2,215.31 Sridge, cnlvert and crosgwalk 275.M 'olicc ■-i). oo ?ire department 002.41 'oor 136.97 lemetery ar. 00 Water ., 3,057.50 Total - The common council then took up the consideration of the paving ordiïance and passed it. As the ordinance now stands, the assessment for paving purposes will be made upon the front-foot plan, the eity to pay for the street intersections and one-fifth of the balance of the cost of the paving in any district. The board of public works was directed to advertise for bids for the construction of the sevver on W. Liberty. The council resolved that in case of default of the Ann Arbor Ry. Co. to juild a sidewalk along its property on First street, the city should build the same and charge the cost thereof to the raihvay company. Permiasion was granted to the Michi gan Central Ry. Co. to repair the Detroit street bridge without prejudice to the company in the suit now pending between the said company and the city of Ann Arbor. A motion to table a resolution to pay the fire department twice a month was carried.
