G. V. N. Lothrop Dead

Detroit, July 12.- Han. George Van Ness Lothrop died ai 10 o'clock tliis morning at the family realdence, 94 Fort sf. west, aged 79 .yeíirs. Tbe aged stateman never reeovered couseiousness after the collapse of a week go. ■His strength li;ul been gradually ebbing away sinee tliat time, and it was only his great vitaliíy tliat sustained lilm for the past -week. When his last brea th was drawn his face had a peaceful, coiiteuted expression. 'His death lias been expected íor n.ore than 48 houors. He suffered no laiu. but péacefully ended his life's work. Everything thaí was possible had been done for hiin. His two sons, 'Hciiry B. and Cyrus E. Lothrop, and his daughter Ellen, wife of Rev. Dr. Villiam Pi'all, of this city, were at his bedside when he died. Dr. Robbins was present. Ttie only other surviving of his faanily, Aune, Earoness 'Huene, is in St. Petersl)urg.
