Day before yesterday some smooth sbarper stepped into the Detroit Soap eompany works at Detroit and asked for Mr. Post. Mr. Rarhfon told him tliat he would not be back for two or three hours. The fellow sald he was O. C. Kmg, who kept a grocery store near the depot in Ypsilanti, and waated to order five boxes of Queen Anne soap. He then remarked tha.t hi had a check for $45 for a load of poultry vvhich he had delivered In Detroit and wanted to be identifled so :hat he conld pay for the soap order. VIr. Rathfon informed him that he was too late for the banks but eashed the eheck, took out Mie auioum tor the soap and the fellow departed. It wa afterwards found to be a forgery on O. C. King of this city and Mars uil Westfall was telephoned to. Mr. King and Mr. Westfall held a convtrsation with the Detroit Soap coaipany and the conclusión anived at was that some smooth tuau who was acquainted In Ypsilanti liad watchíd bis opportunity until Mr. Post was absent from the office and tnen succeeded n getting the check cashed. The very boldness of the man m claiming to be in business in Ypsilanti, Mr. Post's Lome, was enough to allay any suspicions.
