The Detroit Medical and Library Association at its meeting Monday evening adopted the foUowtag resolution: Wfiereas, The medical faculty of the T'niversity of Michigan has requessted tlie board of regenta to authorize the superintendent of the ünlversity hospita] to cxcltfde from that hospital' those v-lio aro abundantly able to pay for meSical and surgical services; and Whereas, It is unjust to the taxpayers of the state to malntain an institution in which Wealthy peoplê receive gratuitons treatment paid for by general taxaüon; and W'hereas, Sm-h gnituitous treatmen of the rieh is degrading to the reeipi ent and unjiist to the worthy poor ii need of al] the elmrity the state is afole to bestow; and Whereas, No persou able to pay ran be admitted to insane ns'lunis 01 other public institmions frée of cbarge; aud Whereas, This being au unjust attitude for any pctolic instimtion to assume, and as such actiou ou the part of the Univereity of Michigan would deprive it of the public steeiïi in whieh it is held; therofore, toe it Resolved, That in the opinión oí this association, the request of the medical faeulty, as expresned above, shcmld be complied with by the board of regente.
