John Lawson, of Whittaker, has pvtrchased the Trim & McGregor stock and will combine it with his own. Marshal Luxton, of Milan, gave a tramp lodging the other night who had only 20 gold rings in his possession. This stock of jewelry was sufflclent to cause his detention until an Investlgatlon can be made. John Cobb was married ohe dny last week to a TompRins lady. A number of his gentlemen friends presented him with a Macintosh. - Brooklyn Exponent. Just why Cobb needs a Mackintosh since he has come in out of the rain does not appear. The box social at Jesse Steffe's, February 3d, for the benefit of the school library in the Sutton district, proved to be very successful. The proceeds amoiyited to $18.20. WHITMOBB IAKB. Mrs. Joseph Pray has returned from a week's visit with relatives at Dixboro and Ypsilanti. - Five rooms of the new ice-house are ready to recelve ice and are being ii'led. - The ice is in good condition and 14 inches thick. - We understand that our hustling lumber dealer and builder, Jay G. Pray, has contracts for the building of ten cottages at this place in the early spring. - Arrived. at the resldence of Mr. and Mrs. William Speigleburg, a boy.- During the constmotion of the immense ice plant at this place, with a promiscuous crew of from one liundred to one hundred and fifty men, there did not once occur a dispute or row of any kind until Saturday when a Plymouth bully pltched inio a boy, and without cause or provocation knocked him down. He was there and then bundled off to the justice's office, who mulcted him to the tune of $5, which cooled his proclivities. Supt. of Construction James Turnbull promptly dischai-ged him aftor giving him a reprimand.- Mr. Turnbull received a telegram tonight asking If they had power enough to run electrlc dynamo so that they can put up ice nights. He answered: "Wt can." - "With electrie lights in Ann Arbor and electric. lights in Whitmoi-e L,ake, what's the matter with an electric railroad. - All the seriously hurt at the ice house collapse are reported to be doing finely. May they soon be on our streets again.- A regular bee-hive is our new ice plant, dolng business as follows: A crew of carpenters putting on roof. boards and siding, and gang of laborers waiting on them; a gang or roofers putting on gravel, tar and paper roof; three toom 40 feet wide, 40 feet high and 138 feet long-, with a continual stream of. ice running into them; crew of ice polers, spudders and plowers stretching one-half mlle nut on the lake, and everybody ful) of business.- Over $3,000 for labor witl be paid at this point on Monday next by Treasurer Bennett for two weeks' pay roll.- Foreman Wm. Roper, of the L. J. Seek Ice company, has completed their ice house on the east side of the lake and will soon fill ït with ice. _ DEXTEK. A meeting of the directora of the Lansing and Dexter electrlc railroad was held in this place last week. The bonus that the company asks from Dexter is $8,000. Much of the above amount has been raised, our townsman, Mr. Thos Birkett. heading the list with a subscription of a round $1,000.- The monument fund received a boost of about $80 last week. The committee have contraoted with Mr. Frank Murdoek, of Ncrthville, to build the monument. The design selected is a beauty. It will be twenty feet high. of the best material, and svrmounted by the. statue of a soldier six feet high, at parade rest. It will be ready for dedication next memorial day. - The young and beautiful wife of George Wing, of Seio, died last Saturday morning-. She was a lady much respected and btloved by every one vho knew her. and her sudden death casts a deep gloom over our entire cornmunity. Shc leaves three children, the eldest about ín e years and the youngtst ten days old. Her husband and friends have the deepest sympathy of this entire section of country.- Mr. Henry Nordman died at his home in Webster 'ast week. He was nearly eighty years of age, and had been a great sufferer for several years past. - A drunken tramp made his bed on the Michigan Central railroad track tr sleep .off his drunkenness. The fast express frm the west was stopped in its raad career but a few feet from the poor, weary hobo, wlio slumbered on xs peacefully as an "infant in the eradle of the deep." Mr. and Mrs. Albert Gates and daughter Mrs. Rose, started Monday for their home at Eaton, Colorado.- James Wilbur is having a large lot of oak timber cut this winter. - A shadow social was given at Milton Geer's Priday evening for the benefit of the Epworth League.- Mrs. B. D. Geer is quite sick. -Mrs. Wm. Brown is very sick.- Robert Martin is busy cutting in Geer's wood. He says Jake Shugh, at the Ann Arbor court house, burns wood pretty fast and keeps him busy. - The Ladies' Aid society met at John Porshee's last Thursday afternoon. - We expect to see Jake Strang buying a horse soon that is somewhat of a stepper He has been flxing a outter for the outfit, which has all the color s of the rainbow exeept blue. Jake is getting rid of some of those extra c'qlors. LA.KE RIDGR. At the hall in this place a dance will be given Tuesday evening, February 22. The directors are looking forward to a large gathering, and a neat sum for their trouble.- Charley Allen is to teach the spring term in District No. 5, and the board has requested him to add two weeks more to the winter term on account of the large scholars.- Lee Pennington is to teach the spring term in District No. 1 of Jlilan township.
