Washington, Peb. 17.- The only parallel to the Maine horror in the history of the United States navy was the great Samoan disaster in March, 1889, when our offlcers aad iorty-itix men of the i Pacific coast squadron lost t heir Uves in a hurricane, which swept the harbor ot Apia, Samoa and surrounding waters.
