In regard to the bridge 'juestion, which now seems ío be the Jnly hitch in the way of the Detroit, in Arbor and Ypsilanti railway completing its line in this city, The Democrat suggcsts that if the city moves carefully it can reap a good advantage from the cireumstances that now arise. The Forest avenue bridge :s in bad shape and will have to be replaced hy a new one, or some other s truc ture must be substituted soon. The Cengress street bridge is a strong one for ordinary trafflc and wouUi be just about the thing to replace the Forest avenue bridge. About "0 Ceet wiuld have to be fllled in at Forest avenue, so as to decrease the wldth of 1he stream down to the dimensions of the Congress street bridge, hut yon do not have to repaint and repair dlrt. The city and the railway ccmjany could go in "snooks" In building a bridge over the river at Congress si reet which would be suitable for street car, horse and wagon and passenger trafflc, nnd thus save half the cost of one bridge at least to the city. The railway company proposes to nut up a power house in this city and equip it at a cost of $91,000. Tlu.y propose to employ from 18 to L'" sUlled men in this city. In vie-.v cf this it seems that tha city might put themselves out a little to accommodate the road. The company desires to temporarily occupy Congres? str;et bridge. With strengthening the !loor beams the structure will be safe enough for the trafflc at present. The company agrees to take all precautionary meas-ures possible for the prevention of nny accident. With the adoption of this plan it is possible for the city to secure in the near future a bridge that will be both ornamental and substantial for many yenrs to come. To put on an extensión on the northern side for railway purposes, as was suggested '.ast night, will make a homely strueture that we will have to put up with and the city will have no more than it has at present. From a business standpoint it seems wisest to let the company occupy the bridge temporarily.
