Dr. i 'mirad Georg, ni a corrununtcalion to The Times, insists that Inasmuch as membei-s of the s-ho,,] board and teaohers tell him that no ong has m.-ulr ofeservations ot th■;.. the recent eritielsm of them must be the 'thonghtlfss utt-erances of some one writing upon nu unknoTm subject." The doctor farther insists, . evidently tesmg his conclusión upon th-e premtse that the schools were in a flourishing c.-nidition prior to the death of Prof. IVrry, that suftieicnl tim-e has ñot sirre eJapsed For them to degenerate. Dr. Georg's concliisioas remind us "that none are so blind as those who vvill not see." It is not to be expeeted that those who are responsible for the unsatisfactory condition of our ward schools, the school [Board and the school teacheEs, would glve evidencc of thelr own Incompetency. If Dr. Georg really wants auithentic Information eoncernng the schools from disinterested and i ompetent sources he can discover sufficient to convince him that all that nas been charged is true. The Democrai tooi the trouble to fill its magazines with ammunition of a high grade and unquestionable character tefore it trained its gijns in support of mueh iieeded school reform. It has made dlreá and serlous charges. The silence "f th' si hooi board is a tacit aömission that the charges are true. But no one has suggested that these evUs have come upon our schools since the (lemisc of Prof. Perry. On the i ontrary. they are of long standing. B.ut they are not evils for whieh Prof. (Continued from First Page.) Perry was responSible. They were fostered against his advice and without ais consent. They are the legitímate out-gj-owth of a system by whlch the ird has usurped in scme most important parttculars the functions of the superintendent. This state of rhings is known to every teacher in the hig-h school, who knbws anything about the inner workinga of our school system. As the baard is about to sele i a now superintendent it is Important that (hese matters be freely discussed to the end that a competent man may be secured. and that when seeured he shal'. be given sufficlenl authorlty t.i brlng about the needed reforms and place our ward sehooljs upon a respectable footing - an authority without whlch a superintendent becomea little more than a flgure-head.
