The New WashtènaW Post, Wasihtei;aw's Germán Republican iiewspaper, has the following to say about the legisla-ture which is misrepresenting the people in I,ansirisr: "Our state legislature present at present a strange spectaele. Many of the legtelators are striving by every art known to politics, to prevent the frovernor from compelling the railroad oerporations and other large monopolies from paying their jnst proportion oí taxes. They refuse to give the peopio relief from ene of the most injust tax sysiems knovrn in modern times. Thc-y J insist on d.scriminating in favor of .on-resident bondhoklers and large caiHtalists as t.gainst the common people. Ts it theefoie any wondei' that the latwr claim that they have been bribed ana cormpted by the power of money or the promise of office, when 59 out of i'very 100 taxpayers in Michigan demand of their representatives a fair and equitable tax law; why do you suppose they cannot get it? Why do you suppose these political Benedict Arnolda cleny their constituenls this reasonable request? One wvuld think that would fear to return to their lonstitiients after such a gross betrayal of their right. When United States senators will corrupt legislacors and stríve lo perpetúate an unjust tax system by bribing state senators wltfa lucí ative federal offices, then it is time for the people to arise' and cast down the party that is represented by such I corrupt leaders.
