From General Alger

Hon. .1. T. Jacobs, of this city, received an autograph lc-tter this morning from General R. A. Alger, secretary of war. General Alger wrltes: "I have your very kind letter oL Ule Ü4tb instant, and assure you that what you say is much appreciated. i hardly know what to say in regard to y mr request for advice as to what steps io take the procure permlssion to eruit a regiment, as the War depariment Is at present formnlating no lans for any large taorease of the army ín the absen-.-e of an emergency which we hope will not arise."
