School Prizes

The Democrat wil] give the following cash prizes to the school children of Washtenaw county for historical essays, to be exhibited school day at the Washtenaw county fair of 189S. All essays must be upon some topic relating to the early history of the school district of which the competitor is a resident. It is the design of these prizes to bring out hicherto unpubished reminiscences of early life in Washtenaw county and the originality of the narrative, as well as the merits of the English composition. will be considered by the committee in making the awards. All enirys must be made in the regrular way with the fair authorities. To childrer. oí the graded schools of the cities and villages of Washtenaw county, belo- che ninth grade, for best essay conforming to the above conditions, $3; for second best, $2. For children of coantry schools of Washtenaw county for best essay conforming to above conditions, $3; for second best, $2. These special school prizes are offered thus early that teachers and scholars may avail themselves of the opportunity to compete for them and perfect their work before the close öf ihe current year, as there is not suffltient time between the opening of the schools in the fall and the date of the fair to insure good work and general competition.
