The contest for the Republican nomination for judge of the Supreme court next spring promises to be an interesting one for Ann Arbor, ior among the candidates for the honor will be judge E. D. Kinne, of this city, Judge C. B. Grant, the present incumbent, formerly l postmaster of this city, Attorney-General Fred Maynard, of Grand Rapids, who was born here and whose parents still reside here, and Judge McAlvay, of Manistee, who is at present acting professor of law in the University and who like the o'ther three is a gradĂșate of the Ann Arbor high school and the University. Judge McAlvay was a pupil of the high school when Judge Grant was its principal. There may be other eandidates, but these are enough to make it interesting for Ann Arbor. Of oourse the Washtenaw delegation will go to Judge Kinnne without a test. He has made a fine reputation on the circuit bench, is well equipped mentally and is probably the most popular runner in this ongressional district, having twice been elected circuit judge by tremendous majorities in a district composed oL two Democratie counties. But this solidity oL Washtenaw will not be due to the faet ;hut the other candidates do not have many friends here. For they all have warm personal friends in this city. Judge Grant will represent the anti-Pingreeites in the fight. Judge Kinne and At torney-General Maynard each evidentlj expect the governor's support. JudgĂ McAlvay expeets to divide the Ken county delegation with Mr. Maynard.- Argus. Subscribe for The Democrat.
