The Democratie convention for ihe lOth senatorial district was called to order in the court house in this city last Friday by W. jL. Watkins, oí Manchester, who named T. J. Birney, of Jackson, as temporary chairman. NathanSutton,of Northfleld. was chosen temporary secretary. The usual committ6es were appointed and after a rece&s the temporary organization was made permanent. The populists and silver Republicans were allowed a representaron of ten in the conventioc. making 59 delegates in all. Wm. G. Doty placed in nomination the name of Chas. A. Ward, the editor of the Ann Arbor Democbat. James Videtto, of Spring Arbor, named Rep. Henry Teflt of Jackson coui ty. H. A. Hodges, of Jackson, nominated John O'Brien, ex-deputy oil inspector of Jacksou. The ñrst ballot ttood: Ward 22, O'Brien 17, Teflt 15, scattering 5. Ward had the solid support of the Washtenaw delegation and on the sixth ballot Jackson county gave him 22 votes wliich made him 45 and the nomination was then made uuanimous. Mr. Ward was escorted before the convention and madu a short speech defïning his position upon pending issues. E. H. Howell and W. J. Riley, of Jackson, and E. B. Norris, of Ann Arbor, were named as the senatorial committee.
