Canada's Claim Is Weak
Washington, Oct. 5.- State department officens do not view with serenity the claim of the Canadian corumissioners concerning the Alaska boundary line. If allowed it would give Great Britain the territory including Dyea and Skaguay on practically the old line contended for since 1884. The boundary claim has not always been the same, but state department offlcers say it has been a game of hide and seek, the most extreme claim being the city of Juneau, the imaginary line always being drawn somewhere on American soil. The state department officials sny the American commissioners would not yield to the claim of their British and Canadian conferees and even if they did the government would not approve the report, for if it did so territory would be conceded over which the United States has exercised control for thirty yeara.
