Nutmegs grow on little trees whicl look like little pear trees, and are gene rally over 20 feet high. The tlowers ar very mudi like the lily of the valle) They are pale and very fragrant. Th nutineg is the seed of the fruit, an mace is the thin covering over thi seed. The fruit is about as largo as peach. When ripe it breaks open and showa the little nut inside. The tree grow on the islands of Asia and il tropical America. They bear fruit fo seventy or eighty years, having rlp fruit upon them at all seasons. A lin tree in Jamaca has over 4,000 nutmeg on it yearly. The Duteh used to hav all tUis nutmeg trade, as they ownei the Banda Islands, and eonquered al the oth'er traders and destroycd th trees.
