A giist'ninfc river 'neath ft morning'a sky; Gently we're gilding down, mj love and I. The oar lie idle as we float along; Softly I sing. and tbiB my tender song: "O lady, Hfe 8 short and love is strong! The banks shine green, a willow's bongh hangs ow, A swallow skims acrone, a black-winged crow Caws loud, and wakes a soft-voiced distant throng Of warblers sweet to juin with me in Hong, "O lady, life is short and loye is strong;" The snn mountR hipher in the cloudless aky. ÖtiJ we float on, my gentle loye and 1. A rustlíng wind the slender reeds among Bend their light f orms and mingles with ray sonir, "O lady, lite is ühort and love is strong;" The moontide changes to thé golden gleara Of parting daylight, and the rippling stream Sliines with a wondrous radiance. All along The darkening banks echo flings back my sonS. ''O lady, life ia short and love is Btrong! The mista are gathering now, the rose-red light faMñed; A monrnful bird tbrüls low that doy i dead; lóng Creep through the Hombre piñén; yet still my song, "O lady, Ufe is short and loTe is strong!"
