DENTON.- At Ann Arbor, Michigan, April 3 1880, Martha Scott Denton.

In the death of Mrs. Denton, Ann Arbor looses one of its oldest residents. Born at Harrisonburg in the state of Virginia, she came to Ann Arbor, in the year 1829, and in 1836 was married to Dr. Samuel Denton, who for many years was a leading citizen of the state, and who from the time of the organization of the medical department of the university of Michigan until his death in 1860, was an honored member of its faculty.

Since the death of her husband, Mrs. Denton has led a more secluded life, but in the circle of friends who have loved her for her womanly virtues, she will be greatly missed. For nearly fifty years she had been a devoted and consistent member of the Presbyterian church of this city. Cultivated, amiable, unselfish and social, she for many years dispensed a graceful hospitality which is well remembered. Upon the members of her household, her departure falls as an irreparable bereavement. With them, naught but kindliest memories encircle her name. B.
