The Chinese, who cstecm rat to be i ft delicacy, are dowu on thé use of mille. The following translation of a Clnnee plaeard regarding tlie highly immoml praotice of consuming cnw's milk is sent to the Foochow Hcrald for publ catión : "Strictljr refrain from eating cow's milk! Man shotild not rob the beasts of thoir food. Moreov#r of all beasts tlie cow is the most usefnl and jneritorious. Men who do not discrimínate betwcen mankind and beasts are worse than senseIcss. Those who sell milk darken their consciences for gain, and thora who eat cow's milk foolishly tliink they are beiiefiting their bodies. Men who tak modieus sbould first carefully investígate and flnd out i ts nature. "Vhy do not thosc who eat cow's milkconsidcr and inquire intoits origin? For instance, men beget children, and while the children are small tboy depend upon milk for their noarishment; so it is with beasts. But when men buy milk to eat, do.they . not do injury to the life of th calf? And is theie not bitter hatred and distress iii the minds of both cow and calf? Beasts cftnnot spoak; how thea are they able to teil the man that, in tho milk of beasts, bis body bccomes like that of bircis and beasts? But if men wish io take strengthening medicine, thore ara numberloss other articles in the world that are bcneficial ; and what nacessity then is thei-e for taking cow's milk? Besides this, tlie death and life of men have their flxed numberand limit, and this cow's milk cannot leugtben out and continue the life of man. Gince, then, all know the truth - that it cannot do this, all ought to act with loving and benevolent spirit. Especially all who receive this exhortation should keep from eating milk. The children of those who cause their families to rciraiu from eating milk will be preservcd to grow up ; they also witi thus lcngllieu out their own lives, and will escape from evil in time of fatal epidciuics. If sucii persona be able aiso to exhort others, who are ignorant of first principies, to leave oü' the eating' of milk, their dcscendants shall surely prosper. I'ublished by the Hall of Good Exhortationa. The Xylographic blccks are depositcd iii tlie Ung Liing Koh."
