Gagktowx, Tuscola ('".. llich. Eni-roit Axn Abbob Aböüs:- Every week a friend from York sends me youi paper, and it seems like a letter from „une. for I nsed to live in Washtenav coimty. Perhaps vm and the, readers of the A.UQU8 woüld like to hear aboul my home upliere in Michigan's Thnmb? Our town is in the north-eagt corner of the lownsliip of Elmwood, one mile from the line of Iluron eounty, and six aifd one-balf frotn Sanalac eounty. We have an enterprising little town of 150 Lntaabitants. We have four general atores, vliere nearly everything called tor can be found; one hardware, ono boot and Blioe store, harness shop, milünery store, post offlce, two hotels, saloon, wagon and paint sliop, three blacksmfch shops, saw and shinprle mili and school house. The CStholics are preparing to build a church here this sèason. Bev. Father Krebs is the resident priest. We have two doctors, and a drug store is being erected, bitt will be for sa'e. iliss Myrtie Warner of York, a Normal student, is teaching here this tner. The nilroad qnestion is being agitated here considerable of late. We are in hopes of having tbe Caseville and Pontiac road via. Gag&town, Uien we eau geton the cara and como to Aön without changing cars twice as we have to now. Our nearest railroad town at present is Caro, sixteen miles. The inhabitants liere are mostly iïom the Cañadas. There are several families here from Wayae and Washtenaw oounties. It is a great county for wheat growing. 1 think there is more wheat raised in tuis County, for the numberof aeres cleared, than any other county iu tlie state. There is only one grist mili in sixteen miles. We had one but itwasbnrned In the fall of '73, and theowner was not able to rebuild. Ihere is a splendid chance forsomeone to.builda steam grist mili here. Propte uaed to come aa lar as iii'tcen miles to niill when there waa ono here. We have good roads here.
