For two weeks post the committee on criminal claims composed of Dansingburg of A.ugusta, Kress of Bridgewater tmá Smitli of' Soia, have had ader consideration bilis presented ttie county and certtfled to, for audit, of policeman Porter, amounting to $188,74, of stable Loomis amormting to tou-.., and of ex-eonstable Imus, amoimting to S244. These large bilis, espeeially that of Loomis provoked a close investigation. The aüegation is made that services claimed tohave been rendered, have not been so performed in part or in whole, and that it is lus intention to defrand the connty. An investigation of Imus' bill whose term as constable expired in April, induced the tee to believe he ia trying to defraud the coimty. An ihvestigation ïnto Porter's bill wtaich is said to cover chacea performed last year and for wliicli he has been once páid, impelled the committee tobelievèhe hasattempted to Bwindle the county. After the committee made a report to the board a resolution was adopted authorizing clniirman Dansingburg to consult the prosecnthip; attoniey with reference to criminal prosecution resulting in the pvocurement of a warrant bofore Justice Grang9 cor apprehension of the trio. Tliey appeared and enterad bail in $250 encli to await examination set down for Tuesday next. On Wednesday, attomey Lavvrence appeared before the board and spent an hour endeavoring to explain the items in the severil bilis. The board adjourned sine die soon afterward and thus the matter stands.
